Each spring, Biological Sciences holds a competition for Elmer Hadley Graduate Research Awards in support of graduate student research in the fields of ecology and evolutionary biology.  Dr. Elmer Hadley was a prominent ecologist, former Department Head of Biological Sciences, and Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Research awards may be used to cover travel expenses, materials used in lab or field research, outsourced lab work, hourly wages for personnel and other direct costs.  Grants are awarded for proposed projects that best demonstrate contributions to dissertation research...

Spring 2017 wrap-up

This academic year is over and we've been busy in the Poretsky lab. Some highlights for 2016-2017: Melissa and Emily spent some time in WA at the NOAA Fisheries lab in March Rachel Macam presented her work (with Jarrad on the microbiomes of members of the UIC swim team as they train and compete) at the UIC Undergraduate Research Forum in April. Adit was awarded a Hadley Grant to continue his work on DOM dynamics in Lake Michigan Dr. Poretsky was nominated for a "Rising Star in Basic Life Sciences"...
