Rachel hails from the great urban microbial hotspot of Brooklyn, NY. She obtained a BS in Biology from Brandeis University in 1999 and a PhD in Marine Sciences from the University of Georgia in 2008. She was a postdoc at Caltech in Geology and Planetary Sciences and at Georgia Tech in Environmental Engineering.
